Cooking the Books

One
chop the offending tomes into bite-sized pieces
      Two
simmer them uncovered until nicely browned
            Three
toss them until no discernible order remains
                  Four
glue, clamp and screw into place
                        Five
cover and set aside until cool
                              Six
pale hues recede, the invisible becomes audible, a fresh syncopation darkens the Seine
                                    Seven
serve
