Whenever I need to feel like it is Spring, feel the need to ignore my actual surroundings and alter their time and place as I see fit, a glance at some fake forsythia always does the trick. As a flower, forsythia is the catalyst of Spring, a sign that the chemistry of the earth has changed and that warmer weather is on the way. We never think about forsythia until its yellow rocket branches are suddenly exploding everywhere-and then, just as quickly, it's gone. Until next year, when we're struck by its glory all over again.
