The Democratic party stands to re-gain control of the United States Senate this November if six if these seven vulnerable Republicans are defeated by their sensible rivals. The Democrats already have one seat won, since Democrat Ned Lamont or Independent Joe Lieberman is going to win in Connecticut. Here are The Eight:

Joe Lieberman (I) Connecticut
James Talent (R) Missouri
Conrad Burns (R) Montana
Mike DeWine (R) Ohio
Rick Santorum (R Pennsylvania
Lincoln Chafee (R) Rhode Island
Bill Frist (R) Tennessee
George Allen (R) Virginia

MIKE DEWINE: a reverse Robin Hood conservative who consistently votes against education and social welfare funding and for corporate largesse. Free market boosters like DeWine never seem to see any contradiction between their abstract philosophies on the Darwinian wisdom of unaided capitalism and the hundreds of billions of dollars the federal government spends keeping the likes of Boeing, Exxon, Halliburton and Archer Daniels Midland profitable. I was mildly impressed when DeWine emerged as one of "The 14," a group of centrist senators who kept the Senate from shutting down, but all that got us was John G. Roberts and Samuel Alito, two supreme court justices well to the right of Sandra Day O'Connor. DeWine trails Congressman and good, old-fashioned Cleveland liberal SHERROD BROWN in some polls, leads in others.
